Oi, there goes the money.

Wednesday, April 30th, 2003

I was checking the bandwidth usage for the server this month… yikes. The general cost of getting the server back online and keeping it online has basically doubled, if not nearly tripled. It makes me feel sick and thus I worry that the horrendous ammount of money I’d transfered into the business account might not even be enough. It’s just frustrating… especially as billing problems seem to persist. I guess that’s the cost of quality… and not having the server die every damned morning…

I’m not so much complaining, it’s just an unfortunate reality that it costs so very much more to get decent service. I’m going to have to re-expand or it seems that the amount of money paid out in bandwidth and fees will not be enough to bother with it… I’ve grown too used to having a nice income margin and after all this insanity… insanity that seems like I’d make more money if I’d toss it into a fireplace, well… argh, I’m rather disgruntled. There are rumours that the network provider is going to increase general bandwidth allowances… I sure hope they do.

Oh well, what is done is done, as they say… No worth in worrying about it I guess.

My Poor Magentas

Wednesday, April 30th, 2003

A few months ago I had my little plant phase, where I bought three Magenta Draecnas (I know that isn’t spelled right) and some other weird version in the same family also known as a corn plant. They’ev all been doing well, until about two weeks ago when half of the one magenta just up and wilted over dead. I knew that I didn’t deal with the root ball very well when I planted them and I used this fairly incorrect soil, instead of potting mix it was more of a seed starter — too light for actual plants. I made the big plunge, hah, and bought a bag of Miracle Grow potting mix, repotted them. Unfortunately that stuff ought to be called Miracle Death ^tm, because the other two have had their halves die now. Just what I need, dead plants. I’m hoping they don’t die completely, otherwise I’ll be one dissapointed light green thumbed garden boy. I guess I should explain that each plant has two “stalks” thus by saying half of it dying I mean one of the two stalks… I’m not sure if they’re really two separate plants or if they grow in pairs. Since my Corn Plant also has two stalks I assume that’s just the way they grow. I was going to get a Star of India version of this plant family since they seem to do fairly well in my room, but I guess I’ll be holding off on that until I know if the magentas are going to survive.

I also decided to go digital tonight/this morning. I bought a digital scale and thermometer for my candle making and such… the fancy regular scale is great for weighing wax and such, but for measuring smaller ingredients where the measurements need to be more precise I figured the digital was the way to go. Considering that my ‘analog’ “instant read” thermometer is not very instant, I’m hoping that the digital one will be a bit more… truthful. In this midnight trip to walmart I finally bought some overpriced packing boxes for candles that I keep saying I’ll send… so I’m getting a bit closer.

Oh, and btw, shrinkwrap is fun to use… watching it get smaller and smaller, haha… little moments of joy, right?

Out of ciggies

Tuesday, April 29th, 2003

This is one of those times where I really hate not having my own transportation. I’ve run out of ciggies and just when I’m in urgent need of a nicotine fix I seem to encounter the idiot quotient again. Why is it that it seems like I’m answering the same question over and over again? …That in itself wouldn’t be too annoying, except for the fact that it is the same people asking those same questions over and over again! I’m an angry person in general… despite my calm exterior… and dealing with idiots when I need a cig is pretty much a good way to get me very disgruntled.

Oh and did I mention…?

That I was stood up lastnight? That’s a rare thing indeed… apparently two random fags won out over me… without a call or message of any kind, what was expected to be a 30 minute wait turned into a never. I feel like I have to twist my own arms like pretzels to spend time with this guy… considering I’m practically always saying no when he asks me to go somewhere…. because I want to spend time with him, not silly fags that I don’t know… well, I get stood up when I finally do agree. I’m a bit less than happy about that.

Let’s Review – Wick Hell

Monday, April 28th, 2003

I did something a bit idiotic, but it was based on a good solid ASSumption. I made votives with HTP31 wicking, the flame seemed a bit too small and seemed to be leaving some wax on the side of the votive cup. The choice seemed obvious… use the next size larger, which would be HTP 41, right? So I made three test votives using that size and three using the HTP31. I ordered a pack of 100 HTP 41 wicks lastnight… without test burning, d’oh. So I did my test burn today and it turns out that the HTP 41 wicks are too large, hahaha. They’re creating a nice melt pool in the votive cup, but the flame is a bit unwieldy, so I suppose I’ll stick with the 31 size. Anticipating this sort of wick weirdness I also ordered a sample pack of a different type of wick, the LX series… perhaps that kind will have a size inbetween? ;)

I’m going to go ahead and do some more tests tonight for the 9oz jars and 6oz cobalt glasses, since HTP62 seems a bit small, I’ll use my samples of the HTP 73. Continuing with the saga of ordering things that I don’t know will work, I ordered a 100 pack of LX wicks that are supposedly the right size for these jars, lol… since I only have 5 of the HTP 73 wicks from the sample pack. I guess it’s a broad test… I’ll compare the HTP and the LX wicks and if I end up with 100 of the ones that don’t quite work, well, they’re not too terribly expensive and I’ll probably find a use for them somewhere else anyway… like the HTP62 wicks, they work great in the little metal tins. ;) Coincidentally I ordered a whole bunch more of those metal tins… so for the people waiting for me to get off my ass and send out the candles I made for you… I’ll add some extra stuff… like votives and maybe a tin, depending on when they arrive. ;)

ARGH!

I hate people. Wait, maybe that wasn’t strong enough… I HATE PEOPLE!

I hate dealing with people on Monday especially. I hate even more so dealing with STUPID people that let things sit idle for a fucking month then expect me to give a damn and compensate for their stupidity and apathy — definitely not part of my job description. As the saying goes, I give them enough rope to hang themselves, and far too often they jump right into the rope, eagerly tightening the noose.

I’m not talking about any person in particular, so don’t get all paranoid that I’m talking about you, it’s just all of those explosive annoyances that culminate together.
