Amphipods and Closed Polyps

Tuesday, July 14th, 2009

A couple of days ago an enterprising little blue leg hermit decided to traipse across one of my frags, unfortunately the polyps have still not opened. It’s starting to be a bit of a concern actually. They simply look closed though, just as plump and with the same coloration as if momentarily agitated.

I need to actually mount my Ricordea onto something, just laying in the sand doesn’t seem to be working all that well. It occasionally gets pushed around and I wake up to see it somewhere new, usually right up against zoas. It had come lose from its little ceramic square in transit, I’ll probably try gluing it down to a bit of rock I’d chiseled at earlier today.

I also saw my first amphipods today, that was a bit freaky.

Scroll Algae

Saturday, July 11th, 2009

I don’t think this stuff is going to make it much longer, the large scrolls are starting to tear and break. Could have something to do with the new placement and the Koralia being pointed more or less directly at them, heh.

Forgive the bit of polyfil hanging down from the AC70… was running that post water change to catch debris.

The white balance tweaking helped photos of the reef tank too.

Corals and Full Tank Shot

Wednesday, July 8th, 2009

In an effort to maintain more than infrequent posting, here are the corals I’ve purchased over the last two weeks. I’ll be taking a purchasing break to let everything settle in for a while. Also, here’s the full tank shot, I took the photo in RAW and “developed” it so the colors would more closely match what I see, but it’s still not quite right, unfortunately.

Today Was Like Christmas

Friday, July 3rd, 2009

My additional two RKLs came today, as did my Gerber Trendy pocket knife, and the replacement memory. I haven’t set the RKL up on the 75g yet, probably will Sunday; that pocket knife is so tiny, and thanks to the new memory, my computer is no longer slow as frozen molasses, yay!

I also took another trip down to Mr. Coral in Frederick and got myself six coral frags for $50, woot! I’ve been lackadaisical again about posting, but I had also gone down there last weekend to pick up two frags. I’ll need to photograph them and get that posted.

Last weekend I did a serious overhaul of the 75g aquarium, substantially thinning out the right side that desperately needed work.

Oh, day before yesterday my Garmin 260w GPS arrived, got it for $119 shipped from Amazon. Now it’s much less stressful while trying to find places and getting lost during “construction season” has hopefully been minimized.
