Tempted by the Nikon 18-105 Lens
Monday, May 25th, 2009While walking around at the zoo taking photos Saturday I found myself really wanting a longer lens. There were many instances where just a little more reach would have been great, eliminating the need to crop the photo so harshly. The photos of the lion, tiger, and panda in particular would have benefited.
The logical choice would be to get the “matched” 55-200mm VR lens, but that would mean carrying two lenses, and quite frankly my pack was heavy enough without carrying an extra lens around. The weight difference between the single lens and the two lenses is only about four ounces though. Of course there’s that whole changing lenses factor, which is annoying and risks getting dust onto the sensor, but the 18-105 will bring VR to the lower end, so it’s a bonus on that level too.
I’m not really interested in the 18-200, it’s just too expensive. I think the 105mm would be enough, I’m very tempted. I think it would make a great walk-around type lens for days just like Saturday.
