good day continued… then horror show

Friday, 26th October, 2001 :: 04:07 EDT - Sidenotes, Tech

well, interesting things have arisen. Looks like we might (Positive Fusion) start doing a Greymatter Specific webhosting service. My friend Nikki obtained the domain name for me today, which was very awesome of her to do. Been talking to Noah about it, so it seems like everything is going to be good. So I’m excited.

Although most of you probably know, much over 1/2 a gig of ram doesn’t make a difference, I’m just verifying it for everyone, lol, no real performance difference between 512MB and 1.5 GB, though I’m sure it’ll certainly come in handy once i get back to editing massive photoshop files, etc.

Then the horror starts… Some bastard company sends me some spam… whatever it is it crashes outlook as soon as you click on it (to delete it)… had to search through M$ help for quite a while to figure out how to fix it, what a mess. Eventually I solved that issue.

good day

Thursday, 25th October, 2001 :: 01:13 EDT - Sidenotes, Tech

Well, today was a pretty decent day actually… The cable tech didn’t show up, which means I get a credit for my inconvienence (damn, i can’t spell that word), which pays for the CDRs that I needed… BUT the cable modem is working correctly now anyway, shock, lol, someone somewhere realized that they’d fucked it up and fixed it, which is just absolutely amazing. Oh yes, and the most interesting thing… We received more ram today… so now i don’t feel so ripped off, lol, and have 1.5GB of ram in this baby, w00t… of course now I’ll be spoilt forever on all computers. I’ve enjoyed watching the second episode of the UK queer as folk, it’s much more funny than the american version. It also looks like I’ll be able to watch the American Episode 1 tonight/this morning, which will be nice, lol… man… watching it sober and… alone, lol.

it’s rather odd how watching queer as folk (us series) makes me gloriously happy. Well, I dunno, I can draw some connections, ahem, but hey, whatever, lol. I was able to download episode 12 tonight, no hope of ever having sho here, lol.

I’ve basically stopped work on the PF site, with the cable modem issues and the linux issues, they’ve taken precedence, and getting the new server seems to have slowed down due to the problem with raising 100% of the funding, almost there though.

well, linux…

Monday, 22nd October, 2001 :: 20:01 EDT - Tech

I feel like I’ve become an expert at the installation of Mandrake Linux, since I seem to do it all the freakin’ time. I really hope that this time all will stay well, lol, I think I have a decent install and a decent filesystem. Sound works and so does my openGL video. I was having all kinds of problems yesterday, to the point of complete and utter frustration. Everything seems to be back in working order now though of course; however I still need to get netscape 6.1 installed, the internet is a bit too slow at the moment.

redhat is evil

Sunday, 21st October, 2001 :: 17:54 EDT - Tech

hmm, yes, back to meaningless posts about computer geekdom i suppose. Well, so yeah, as I said earlier I downloaded redhat linux 7.1, talk about a PoS! It’s great for dedicated webservers, there is no doubt there, lol, but it so sucks for dualbooting windows and linux. The lilo interface is so yucky, they shouldn’t have made it graphical at all, at least not by default. It said just “linux” and “dos” well sure enough “linux” would load redhat, and it seems faster than mandrake, but, jesus, it’s so yucky… but “dos” wouldn’t load windows 2k, and the morons who made windows apparently didnt’ think to make the “emergency rescue disk” i made just in case that would happen bootable, so I after trying for a very long time to be able to dual boot them, I had to reinstall mandrake, which took 2 hours or so (as per typical) just so i could get their version of lilo (which works) back, lol. Oh well, I tried it, and sure enough I’m back to mandrake, red hat is so incredibly commercialized too, it’s a bit sickening, it’s sort of like they’re becoming the M$ of the linux world, and well, no thanks, I’m bombarded and have my intelligence insulted plenty enough from the bill gates pack, I do not need that when I go to the refuge of linux too!
