Well… I have my new 40GB HD and ATA100 controller card all working nicely now, yay!

The orbitz system (our internal network) now has 200GB of storage - I want my future network to have far more storage - not sure of the “name” for it quite yet though… but I want to slowly creep up to 1 terabyte of storage… yeah! - Have a nice gigantic file server.

I also managed to fix my linux kernel… heh… got to recompile from scratch, none of that simple rpm stuff, lol… but I managed to get new nvidia drivers and also get the “real” enterprise kernel installed… wow, what a difference, now it actually understands how to use 1.5GB of ram… Just need to tweak my X config file a bit and modify the video ram sizes… apparently linux has started to not want to give me all of my ram. I really feel quite accomplished with that though… resurrected my install AND improved performance greatly, lol. My LiLo screen has a bunch of crap on it now… I have four different kernels installed now… the latest 2.4.17 from kernel.org doesn’t seem to want to work right, it goes into Kernel Panic, which is a rather funny name if you ask me, which you didn’t, but I told you anyway, so deal :-p.

I *really* need to tackle SAMBA now… as I’m still completely clueless on how to get linux to be able to browse the network.

I used lynx the other night, lastnight actually, which is a command line/text only browser, that was a very interesting experience to say the very least… lol.

I need a DVD drive and a new power supply fan, my current one is getting to be a bit noisy, I assume the ball bearings are wearing out… blah… Well, It’s been working almost non-stop since 1998, so I guess it’s okay to wear out, slightly short of a typical five year lifespan (constant running). So yay, new controller card, I have 3 open EIDE ATA 100 connections…. Hehe… I have 4 harddrives and a CDRW now (since my cdrom died and I never replaced it, since I needed a DVD anyway… still waiting for them to be a tiny bit cheaper).

I’m still trying to figure out why my server recorded almost 3GB of transfer out of the blue on a brand new domain… I don’t think there is ANYTHING on there that could have accomplished it that quickly… might be some sort of insane glitch that just appeared… perhaps should check with the cpanel people…. ….well… it looks like this happened on another server to someone else today… glitch?

blah… depression?

Erm… the simple thought of it might indeed trigger some sort of pyschosomatic version, but none the less I’m not exactly feeling all that great lately.

I need to get away… …back to pittsburgh… back to creativity… back to where I know quality people.

Monday, 24th December, 2001 :: 01:17 EST - Tech

my poor linux install was destroyed the other day (err, i guess more like 8 days ago since the search db wasn’t updated for eight days)… when I ran the update wizard and it updated my kernel… and subsquently destroyed my kernel… I’ve been trying most of the evening to fix it, but it’s just not cooperating… I guess I’ll spend some time reinstalling… as I don’t know any guru-esque people at all… and this is a pretty horrible problem. **GRRR!**

I’m trying to twart people from directly accessing http://indiboi.com/gm, but I need to make sure that the weblogs ping can read the page to see if it was updated… I don’t know if there really is a way to do it… So I’m trying some .htaccess statements… I want to be listed on the weblogs page, but I don’t want people to come directly to my journal, because otherwise the formatting and general site design is destroyed or people think I have zero design skills… of course people are going to think that anyway of course, because some people are just evil, but oh well. I don’t want to mottle up the page with a “click here for the main site” sort of thing either… grrr… It’ll probably tell me that my page wasn’t changed when I try to submit to weblogs.com now… they really should change the system… not ALL of us have one page lamer designs… but I suppose that’s the way the journal/blog/log/ community works… if you put time into a real design then you get screwed. I hate lamer one page designs with a passion.

Catch your breath
Hit the wall
Scream out loud as you start to crawl
Back in your cage
The only place
Where they will leave you alone
‘Cause the weak will seek the weaker ’til they’ve broken them
Could you get it back again
Would it be the same
Fulfillment to their lack of strength at your expense
Left you with no defence
They tore it down
And I have felt the same
As you, I’ve felt the same
As you, I’ve felt the same
Locked inside the only place where you feel sheltered where you feel safe
You lost yourself in your search to find something else to hide behind
The fearful always preyed upon your confidence
Did they see the consequence
They pushed you around
The arrogant build kingdoms made of hte different ones breaking them ’til they’ve become just another crown
And I have felt the same
As you i’ve felt the same
As you I’ve felt the same
As you I’ve felt teh same
Refuse to feel, anything at all
refuse to slip, refuse to fall
can’t be weak, acn’t stand still
You watch your back, ’cause no one will you don’t know why they had to go this far
traded your worth for these scars
for your only company
don’t believe the lies that they told to you
not one word was true
you’re alright, your’re alright, your alright
And I felt the same
As you I’ve felt the same
As you I’ve felt the same
As you I’ve felt the same
(some ladadadada stuff)
As you I’ve felt the same

Just a random posting of song lyrics, heh… I love this song… This neat little plugin I installed for winamp works beautifully to look up lyrics.

I did good!

Hehe… well, today was the gift buying day apparently, one for davey and one for me (err, well two for me, but it’s a set, so really just one i guess).

I registered “rootofpi.org” for davey, because of his current ISP evilness (blocking chibidave.net). I’ve attempted to get it unblocked, probably will need to wait until monday to get a response from his ISP, since he is a client of mine, I have a reason to want to kick an ISPs ass for blocking a domain I host, yeah. Anyway, his reaction was quite enjoyable… hehe

[22:35] Davey: mmm

*huggles&snuggles&smoooches&sexes&anythingelse* =D

Lol, we were discussing name changes, and hypenation and such, rather funny actually… People would have a hard time grasping “meridian-kay,” hehe, but of course that would destroy initials. All in random humour of course.

ALright… SO I’ve FINALLY bought new ear jewelery. I was planning on getting these beauties: Cobalt Titanium Pinchers, but after reading up more on stretching (those are at 10 gauge) I think it’s best to go with something perhaps less stylish but safer, so I ordered a set of these: stainless steel horns. They start the taper at 20gauge and work up to 10gauge, and since I have at most 16 gauge (though really about 18/20 from the original piercing about 10 years ago, sidenote: I think I’ve lost track of how old I was when I had my ears pierced… I was thinking 13… but doing the math… I must have been 14 actually, since it was in 1993 and I was born in 1978, guh, I feel OLD. That does put me as quite the progressive little teenager though, both ears pierced at 14, back in the early 90’s… lol, most guys didn’t have ANY of their ears pierced back then around here, lol), jumping right up to 10 was something that sort of freaked me out - better to be safe (and cost twice the money, lol) than to end up ripping my ear lobe or otherwise causing more pain than need be. Anyway, for those who aren’t aware, I’ve been wanting to do this for a **very** long time (Years) and I’ve been waiting until I felt that I had significantly enough information on the process, risks, and benefits (well, visual would be the only I can imagine, lol). And to quote from bme: “You can never be too conservative when it comes to stretching.” - Patrick Bartholomew

So hopefully I’ll get my new horns (lol, reads funny) soon. :)
