new toys
I decided against the “part by part” or otherwise “wait a little while” type purchasing.
I want/need more memory for my iBook - 512MB ordered yesterday afternoon (the 23rd) should have it on Tuesday.
I want a new camera - a digital one - will be buying that today at Circuit City… Nikon Coolpix 885, it has amazing image quality, as demonstrated by Nikki, and it’s USB/Compact Flash — compatible with iPhoto! :-) …So, that means… if I’m out somewhere, run out of space on the card– becuase i’m too cheap to buy a bigger one, I can just fire up the iBook and transfer the images! :-) …of course, since I’m used to the mavica with the 1.4MB floppies… having used less than ten on my december trip to indiana… the one I’d chronicled… I should be quite fine with the 16MB card… especially if I use the smaller resolution.
I want to be wireless on my iBook… so I need an airport card and a wireless access point. Outpost.com has these in stock now… so I withdrew money from my savings account, having it sent to my debit account… will likely be purchasing these on Wednesday, hopefully… to have them overnighted for Thursday. My bank is really slow in transfering money though it seems… so I somehow doubt it’ll be in the typical 3-4 business day turnaround time period. I should be wireless by the weekend though, I hope.
I’ve done a fairly good job of saving money over the last couple of months… though this last month I sort of had a bit of a spending spree… but important things, like a new chair, an air conditioner (the best money i’ve spent in a LONG time!!) and various other things. Once I get this spending binge out of the way I’ll be clear to keep saving money again.
It’s a big part of saving for the future… I know having a decent amount of “banked” money will be very important for when davey and I would move to pittsburgh. I don’t want to fuck up like I did last time… moving with only $20 and staying with someone I’d only seen a couple of times. That was so very long ago… I’d wanted to be back in PGH by now… but… I don’t regret staying here… I think this is all part of the “everything has a purpose” thing… I want to make sure that I have everything I’ll need before I go…
Perfection is not attainable nor something that should be expected… but I want to be able to provide both for me and for davey, as near a perfect new life as possible.
ibook!
After discussing my streaming video problem (couldn’t watch video played over the network - too jerky), I’ve bought a 512MB SO-DIMM; it should be here tuesday by 3pm, lol.
I really hope this helps…
I’ll also be buying the wireless networking equipment sometime this week… major upgrades to the iBook I guess.
It’ll be so very nice to be able to be online from anywhere in the house without dealing with a lan cable!
drifting…
I’ve been heavily working on various technical things…
lots of server updates… updating stuff locally and working out various compile time problems, etc.
I had lunch with troy yesterday, business meeting mostly…
I hate the RIAA with a passion greater than ever before… now that they’re killing internet radio to reform it as a mirror copy of the god-awful crap that is on broadcast radio.
Davey took some very nice photos, selfportraits; he’s such a beauty, it really does defy words sometimes.
I got a new switch, a netgear platinum 5 port, it looks great on my desk… I want to finally get the wireless stuff for my iBook, and also finally get a digital camera of my own, since my brother has a tendency to not let me use his mavica. I want to get it tomorrow (the camera), but since the bank is not open, well… not likely I can withdrawl enough at the ATM to do it, lol.
Hmm… I want to go to the Apple Store in WDC when davey comes.. I think it’d be fun… and have lunch with Nikki, perhaps.
yay!
For the first time ever, I was able to update php/apache on the webserver without it _completely_ exploding.
There were some mod_gzip errors and mod_rewrite errors that stopped it from starting right away, but otherwise, it was pretty decent…. much better than the last time where it totally exploded.
