Consumables, etc.

I was just having a random moment of self-amusement… Looking over my statement the majority of my purchases are either food, gasoline, or cigarettes. I’d really hate to add up how much I’ve spent on gas during the month of March, I’m sure the number is utterly terrifying. I also really need to start buying cartons of cloves again, buying pack by pack is a collosal waste of money — my brother Matt had this “HOLY SHIT! You have a $60 carton of cigarettes!” moment a couple of weeks ago, heh, of course he didn’t realize that if bought by the carton the cost comes to more like $30, thankfully, no longer $5 per pack (plus tax of course).

I’ve also developed this little thing about having real flowers in my little collection of vases, thankfully cheap flowers like daisies last a rather long time. Unfortunately I tend to shop at the Giant for my flowers and the local one has a very pitiful selection, grah, I was reduced to buying a spray of mums the other night… only $2 to fill four vases though so I suppose it’s not so bad. I really should have stopped off at “the ghetto Giant” and bought those chartreuse daises the other night before I left Harrisburg, just wasn’t quite thinking about it at the time I suppose.

I really do need to evaluate my spending habits though. I’ve not quite adjusted to having to purchase gasoline and pay car insurance yet. The gasoline is really biting into things I think, heh… thankfully the Festiva is rather fuel-efficient for being over a decade old.

My usenet service has gone down the toilet in a major way. It used to be that I could saturate my broadband connection, but now it’s more like a poor dialup connection to the usenet servers with a max speed of approximately 20KBps instead of the normal 300KBps. I’m strongly considering just cancelling it until I can find a reliable provider, it’s just that I’ve always really liked newsfeeds.com, until recently.

I’ve been obsessing over various different messenger bags lately, rather torn between the Metropolis by Chrome, the Deluxe by R.E.Load, and Timbuk2’s Classic bag. So far I think the one by Chrome is winning, that buckle is just so damned cool. I don’t know if I’ve been warped in thinking, but I just don’t find the idea of shelling out almost $150 on a bag to be that painful, it’ll last forever.

Another thing on my mind lately is refreshing my ear jewelry collection. I basically have two different sets I wear on a regular basis, my stainless steel eyelets and the 10mm blue acrylic plugs. As always I’m rather torn between exactly what I want… I’ve decided to stay at triple zero gauge (roughly 10mm, almost one half inch, technically 7/16″) which causes the stainless steel eyelets to be a bit on the small size so I suppose it would make sense to just go ahead and get 7/16″ eyelets, but of course would they be made of pyrex, black chrome stainless, or just ordinary stainless? I also need to get some silicone o-rings, the nitrile is starting to dry out the skin around the opening, kinda sucky really.

Jon’s in Mexico, mostly safely, heh, I talked to him Wednesday… he wanted my help with finding the Fanta Jingle, bleh. I couldn’t quite feed that obsession though, oh well. I think he’s also somehow managed to wipe out his OS X system folder on his iBook… D’oh, and I doubt he took installation cds with him to Mexico… oops. Of course, hmm… I don’t think I would have either, but I’ve not gone away on such a long trip either… week/ends in Harrisburg don’t really count in relation to being far away. I do miss him though, even if I do have this sort of low-level persistent irritation with him. I think it may be a result of him being gone too though.

I could say that I’ve not really done anything this week, which is quite strange given my activities of late, but it’s also a nice shift towards just kind of relaxing too. Patrick came by after work Wednesday night, we stayed up insanely late as usual, lol, watched Requiem for a Dream and he agrees with me that it makes Trainspotting look quite tame. I had a dentist appointment yesterday morning, just getting another resin filling to fix up things more, bank account in pain, but thankfully not me so much, just some gum irritation from the sandpaper strips. It was nice, in the same sort of way as returning to Patrick’s last Thursday morning was, returning home and having him be here. Patrick also discovered just how much of a Trekkie I am, lol, of course I tend to keep that a rather closely guarded secret — known only to Cole, mostly, though Luke knows that I do like Trek, haha… ;)

I discovered the other night that the Espresso machine that I have been lusting after is a hot $600… *moan* Bleh, I still really want it though, heh, even if I don’t think I’d ever really drink $600 in espresso.

I think that’s about it… for now at least. I do need to write about last weekend, heh, to finally catch up with everything.
