I Hate Lawns.

Tuesday, 23rd August, 2005 :: 10:14 - Sidenotes

I finally get motivated enough to cut that monstrosity of green in the front of the house this morning only to discover that I can’t anyway. You see, I’ve been sort of slacking off with the less than appealing outdoor responsibilities, mainly due to either living life or being ill, and it seems that I’ve been ill for most of August anyway. It turns out that, I suppose, the battery for the tractor has either gone bad or lost charge. There is a little voltmeter of sorts, but I’ve never really understood them in that sort of application. The point still remains is that I can’t get the tractor started, it just makes this sort of scraping noise (from the starter, I at least know that much, lol), attempts to ‘turn over’ and well, nothing else happens. Hmm, well, guess I won’t be mowing the lawn today.

Otherwise life is fine, nothing dramatic to report in either direction… well, except that David goes to New York this weekend, which is a bit closer to dramatic I suppose.

    When you do get it to work, I strongly suggest taking your mowing deck to its highest setting, cutting the grass, and then coming back two days later with the deck at the “normal” height. It’ll keep your lawn from dying. Now, killing the lawn might seem like a great solution, but eventually, you get to make it green again, and that’s a pain in the ass.

    Oh, up here we always mow at the highest setting — regardless of season; we’re a bit too warm for cool season grasses and a bit too cool for wam season grasses, so we go with the cool ones and hope they don’t die in the summer. The grass needs all the help it can get, which means being a bit taller than most, heh. ;) Of course, you can tell that my evil neighbor still hasn’t learned this lesson, he spends, so his wife boasts, $500 a year on environment destroying chemicals sprayed onto it only to have a vast expanse of brown thanks to mowing it way too low. I like the weeds, they keep it looking green no matter how hot it is or the lack of rainfall, lol. :-D
