Still an Ex-Smoker.

It’s been a few days past four months without a cigarette touching my lips. Apart from the occasional drunken puff, Matthew is still smoke free. My brother Matt, on the other hand, has taken back up the habit for as far as I can tell. The same can be said, I suppose, for my mother. I caught her with a cigarette this afternoon; having previously smelled smoke on/around her. She says she’s just having two a day to deal with the stress of work.

I don’t know, but I’m just a little disappointed, but then that is a case of applying my own personal values onto others… something that never results well.

Otherwise, oddly, this evening I’m feeling this unpleasant anxiety. I feel how I’m sure my little fish must feel whenever they’re scooped up out of the water; they flop around a bit then they just sort of chill, waiting for whatever will happen next, completely out of their control.

70% Lactose Free Milk?

Saturday, 6th May, 2006 :: 01:30 EDT - Sidenotes

I noticed, to my horror, that the carton of Lactaid in the refridgerator this afternoon didn’t say “100% Lactose Free” like it normally does, but instead it said “70% Lactose Free” in the little ‘banner’ area. There were absolutely no other differences in the package. My mother picked up this 70% milk, thinking it was the usual.

What the hell is the point of 70% lactose free milk? If you are intolerant to lactose, it will make you sick, you’ll want to avoid it completely. If you are tolerant, why the hell would you want to pay twice as much for milk?

All I know is that I felt sick after drinking it… so it’s not the same stuff, just with a different label, perhaps for some regulatory/legal reason.

So, let this serve as a warning… if you buy Lactaid milk, be certain you’re getting the right stuff, because if they’re selling 30% lactose on the sly, you might as well save money and buy regular milk. You’ll be sick just the same.

A tiny little number change, what a scam!

Okay, it really isn’t so bad.

I think I’ve de-stressed enough since the weekend. It was truly horrid with work, but we managed to get everything under control and things seem to be working (dare I say…) better than it has been in a good while.

I’ve been outside working a lot, in addition to watching things work-related. I did get a push reel mower, had to actually return two before I found one that wasn’t broken… rather a bad sign.

The 16″ version had plastic height adjustments along with a plastic roller. I wasn’t too pleased with that, but then again that was the size I wanted. Well, I switched over to the 20″ version, it weighs 13 more pounds, but it seems to work nicely. It doesn’t cut dandelions if they’re taller than the bar in the front, but that just means I need to work to eliminate them.

Oh, I actually did mow the entire front lawn with the reel mower. It didn’t really take any more time than doing it on the tractor, at least not significantly more time. I was utterly exhausted, but it was such an amazing, rather full body, work out.

The fish are doing well, the garden is growing nicely, but need to weed and mulch very badly. We finally managed to get rid of our old cars, this company came and bought them for scrap metal. $20 per car isn’t too bad, hah… better than having to pay someone to take them away!
