Paypal is Fucked Up.

Sunday, 23rd March, 2008 :: 22:11 EDT - Rants

My Paypal debit card was somehow compromised and the criminals bought Catholic books of all things, in addition to some random Yahoo Voice $1.00 transaction.

I had apparently linked my checking account debit card to my Paypal debit card sometime in the past. When I went to buy Taco Bell the other night, prior to realizing this compromise had happened, I went into ‘backup funding’ through Paypal.

Paypal wouldn’t allow me to unlink the bank account debit card, so I had to cancel it the next day. I figured that Paypal had already obtained the authorization so the existing ‘backup funding’ transaction for Taco Bell was taken care of.

Apparently it wasn’t authorized through the debit card, so what did Paypal do to fund the payment? …hit my checking account, the one I have to have setup so that I can transfer money away from Paypal.

They weren’t supposed to use that as backup funding for the Paypal debit card. I never set the checking account up as a backup funding source. I’ve come to find out that a bank account is the defacto funding source for all Paypal transactions. There’s no way to turn off that “feature” either.

They won’t allow me to remove the checking account from my Paypal account either, because that damned Taco Bell transaction is still pending.

Now it looks like I need to close my checking account too. Nobody at Paypal can tell me for certain that the $1.00 pending authorization won’t empty my checking account if it comes through for something greater than $1.00.

It’s ridiculous that they take the stance of ‘let the criminals make a mess.’ It doesn’t matter if there’s a 100% guarantee against unauthorized transactions when you’re unable to pay your bills when they’re due, but instead have to wait weeks for resolution.

I don’t think I’ll ever use that Paypal debit card again… once it’s eventually reissued, which is another serious bit of ridiculousness. I need to “re-apply” for the cards, they’re not just automatically reissued when reported stolen like any other issuer would do.

I Hate Barking Dogs.

Friday, 25th January, 2008 :: 23:25 EST - Rants

Why do people have dogs only to keep them outside? If they actually loved the thing, or took decent care of it, wouldn’t they want it to be inside?

Is it that they’ve failed somehow in training the thing and now it’s a troublesome bother and thus they put it outside, thinking outside would be no longer a bother? Or is it the fault of the dog for being mentally worthless?

In either case, and case doesn’t particularly matter anyway, by putting the beast outside they’re only sharing their problem with the neighborhood.

I absolutely hate barking dogs. I should not have to hear dog barking if I don’t have one. I should not have to be bothered by a dog barking when I’m in my bedroom at 2AM. My cat when she meows doesn’t reverberate throughout the neighborhood.

Unfortunately the laws in this particular area apparently have no provision for constantly barking dogs, there is no sort of noise ordinance in my township.

I’m a very “leave them alone, they’ll leave me alone” sort of neighbor. It seems I’ll have to call the dog warden now, as I’ve dealt with that horrible barking dog the neighbor has for a good week now. My only possible reprieve would be if the dog warden would find some sort of mistreatment or neglect. I was successful in getting a dog removed a few years ago on those grounds. I’ll need to figure out who actually has the dog, though I believe it’s the super-rednecks that moved in most recently.

I think it’s inhumane to allow a dog to remain outside when it’s below freezing. Clearly the dog doesn’t like it either, at least that makes sense… if I was freezing I’d be yelling too.

I’ve even taken to yelling things like “Take the dog inside!” and “The barking needs to stop!” and even “Get rid of that dog.” Clearly those “subtle” hints haven’t made an impact. In fact, they’re even more a bother for the whole neighborhood.

Maybe the title of my post shouldn’t be that I hate barking dogs, but that I hate people that have no consideration for others. Their rights end where mine begin after all.

What a Way to Discourage Payments!

Saturday, 8th December, 2007 :: 02:14 EST - Rants, Sidenotes

My Orchard Bank credit card payment is still only half posted, with the payment still being held away from my available credit. I was planing on making my final payment this month to finish off the balance, but clearly that isn’t going to happen until they actually start accepting my payments properly. Nowhere in the payment terms does it say they can do this either.

I’m so infuriated with this bullshit, if all I’m able to do is pay on the balance, I might as well just close the account. They’ll probably pull the shit again when I do make the payment, it’s due within 12 days anyway. I don’t have a whole lot of choice though, it’s either pay them and deal with the bullshit payment holds, or not pay them again this month and give them interest.

I’m also so goddamn sick of broken English with an Indian accent.

I sure have learned my lesson though, no more than one or two payments per month, don’t ever pull that I’ll pay each week thing again.

Worst Customer Service Ever…

Thursday, 6th December, 2007 :: 17:33 EST - Rants

I have an Orchard Bank credit card… I made a payment and they decided to ‘hold’ it instead of actually applying it. Apparently I’m somehow acting suspiciously when I make more than one payment a month on my account.

When I call, of course I get someone that hangs up on me immediately. The next call the automated system doesn’t work. The third call I get someone that barely speaks English. He explains, poorly, that there will be a fourteen day hold on the payment, but doesn’t tell me why. I ask that this situation be corrected, he transfers me to his manager that clearly has better English, but is still certainly in India. She goes onto basically say the situation is tough shit, she won’t do a damned thing about it, all with the attitude that I’m just some scummy person that doesn’t deserve to be treated with any respect or dignity.

I am beyond disgusted with the way Orchard Bank treats their customers, it’s bad enough customer service is outsourced to India, but the wounds really get filled with salt when the representatives are assholes.

Buffalo Didn’t Honor My Rebate

Monday, 10th September, 2007 :: 16:37 EDT - Rants

A few months ago (May!) I bought a Buffalo Airstation router. It had rebates to deal with, but those rebates made it half price. I sent the one in, with a COPY of the upc per the Circuit City instructions, and I sent the other to Buffalo with the original UPC as per instructions. The circuit city check came and all was well, the Buffalo check never came.

Today I got a little letter, folded just like it would be if it were a check. It said I didn’t include the original UPC. Now, I absolutely know I did. I even had to pay additional postage because it wasn’t ‘consistent thickness.’ What to do now? Well, nothing I guess, because if they ‘lost’ my UPC, they’re not going to accept a copy now are they? Bitches.

For 10 dollars and losing my UPC, they’ve effectively lost my business forever. Good job Buffalo!
